Regulation of Cellular Energy Metabolism

The Department of Pharmacology and Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are looking for outstanding candidates working in the field of Cellular regulation of energy metabolism, associated with, but not limited to cancer, inflammatory diseases, diabetes and metabolic diseases or neurodegenerative disorders. Metabolic and mitochondrial regulation, as well as stress response systems affecting cellular homeostasis and the pathological processes associated with aging, are also of major interest. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant expertise and using technological approaches that consolidate the department’s research themes, as well as those of the Faculty of Medicine’s Basic Sciences sector.

Basic research professor (CRCHUM)
Immuno-inflammatory diseases of connective/musculo-skeletal tissues

Position Description

The Research Center of the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CRCHUM) and the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) are currently in the process of recruiting an outstanding research professor in basic research involving the study of immuno-inflammatory diseases of connective/musculoskeletal tissues (including osteoarthritis, arthritis and other immuno-inflammatory diseases that have an articular damage component) and the identification of biomarkers.

The translational research program, using human specimens and Omics-type approaches, will establish connections with the clinical departments of the CHUM in order to facilitate a continuum of research with the clinician-scientists of the Immunopathology Theme, and to ensure collaborations with the basic researchers of the Theme, working on « non-infectious inflammatory diseases ». The candidate will play a central role in complementing the research strengths of the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, the Faculty of Medicine and the CRCHUM.

As researcher at CRCHUM, the new principal investigator will join a rich and diverse research environment with state-of-the-art facilities and a highly stimulating scientific environment. In addition, he/she will be a professor-researcher at the Faculty of Medicine of the UdeM. An establishment fund and competitive recruitment conditions will also be offered according to experience and skills.

Responsibilities

The research professor will be responsible for:

  • Create and carry out an innovative and productive basic research program in the area of inflammatory connective tissue/musculoskeletal diseases, consistent with/complementary to existing research activities at the CRCHUM
  • To get involved in the teaching and supervision of graduate students in the curricula of the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine. According to the language policy of the Université de Montréal*, professors who are not fluent in French at the time of their appointment will benefit from a French language support program and must be sufficiently competent to teach in French after a period of three years
  • Contribute to the scientific and academic life of the CRCHUM and the University Department
  • Participate in the outreach activities of the CRCHUM and the Faculty of Medicine, particularly by disseminating research results.

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent degree, and sufficient postdoctoral experience to establish an independent and creative basic research program
  • Candidates will be expected to develop a world-class, cutting-edge basic research program that will be funded by national and/or international organizations in areas of study related to inflammation, connective tissue/musculoskeletal diseases or similar. Expertise in « Omics » approaches will be considered a plus
  • Candidates in the early to mid-career stage are preferred
  • Candidates must have a competitive record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and have demonstrated potential to obtain research grants from recognized organizations
  • Candidates should have a strong academic record, excellent interdisciplinary collaboration skills, and good teaching skills.
