Titre : MODULATING NEURAL PLASTICITY AND BLOOD-BRAIN BARRIER PERMEABILITY WITH MRI-GUIDED FOCUSED ULTRASOUND: FROM PRECLINICAL RESEARCH TO CLINICAL TRIALS FOR ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

Résumé : The last 20 years have established the potential of focused ultrasound (FUS) to temporarily modulate the permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for the delivery of therapeutics, including large molecules, genes and stem cells. More recently, we discovered that FUS can be used to activate glial cells, reduce Aβ pathology, increase hippocampal neurogenesis, and improve cognition in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This preclinical work directly contributed to the first clinical trial using MRIgFUS in AD patients.
