Conférencier : Dr Nader Ghasemlou, Assistant Professor, Pain Chronobiology & Neuroimmunology Laboratory, Queen’s University

Titre : The neuroimmunology of pain: vignettes from the spinal cord and the skin

Résumé : Dr. Nader Ghasemlou is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Biomedical & Molecular Sciences, and a member of the Centre for Neuroscience Studies, at Queen’s University. He is also a founding member of the Canadian Chronic Pain Network, a CIHR-SPOR funded network bringing together basic scientists, clinicians, and patients to further our understanding of pain. Research efforts in the Pain Chronobiology & Neuroimmunology Lab (ghasemloulab.ca) are focused on understanding the interactions between the nervous and immune systems. His group uses models of injury and disease, including spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, and inflammatory pain, to better understand how immune cells and their mediators modulate neuronal function, and how sensory neurons in turn affect inflammation. His group carries out both fundamental science to dissect the cellular and molecular control of neuroinflammation, as well as patient-oriented research with clinician-scientist partners.
